Andy Best & Merja Puustinen (MEET Factory)
SOULMAN
FOOTY
EINSTEIN
BETTY

http://meetfactory.com

All our avatars are in VRML97 format, best viewed with blaxxun Contact or ParrallelGraphics Cortona.

First of all, these avatars are taken from our Avatar Builder (http://meetfactory.com/avatarbuilder/) - for the Avvy contest I've made them as stand alone files, but all avatars output from the Avatar Builder are currently blaxxun Community server complient - you can enter direct to Cybertown or our own Conversations with Angels from the 3D hub. We're updating the AB to create avatars for ParrallelGraphics Cortona multiuser worlds too - our next community/world IceBorg will be using this platform. We thought to enter the Avatar Builder to the Avvy Contest, but as it creates countless combinations of avatars and animations it might be difficult to judge!;-)

So, info on each avatar:
Avatar Name File Size Poly Count Texture File Size

Einstein 32,1K 670 12K
Betty 29,6K 886 N/A
Footy 30,9K 733 30,7K
Soulman 30,9K 784 35K

Animations are meant to express something about the character of the avatar and/or person using it! We like to make more expressive gestures, not the usual 'wave' , 'shake head', etc, so they tend to be more 'lively' than the usual. In the Avatar Builder users can select which animation pack they like best, this is not fixed, but here I've put the most appropriate for each avatar, ie:

Einstein - Expressive - for a lively mind!
Betty - Active - ???!
Footy - Sport - he plays soccer....
Soulman - Dance - he's the singer with a Funk band :-)

As far as design goes, we prefer an aesthetic which is more visual than hyper real, if you know what I mean! So the Einstein avatar is more of a characature than a pure realistic figure, for example. The styles, colours, movements are exaggerated to create a more exciting and visual experience in the virtual world, where usually the avatar size is quite small on the screen real estate.

Hey, this is soulman, the funkiest mover in town!
http://meetfactory.com/avatars/soulman/soulman.wrl

For Manchester United fans! He's a real mover on the pitch.

Albert if he'd lived in the 60's - maybe he hung out with Timothy Leary...or maybe they are now!

Betty Boop! No textures on avatar, quick to load! Everybody loves Betty! ;-)

DEMON

http://home.neo.rr.com/elmovision

I use it in Blaxxun Contact. It doesn't move, but it talks when you click on it. I'm not sure if it would be in weirdest or non-humaniod. I enjoy it because it is so different. My husband made it and gave it to me.

NEMISIS

http://home.t-online.de/home/kiwano5/nemisis.wrl

http://home.t-online.de/home/kiwano4/

Nemisis is a female avatar who can handle herself very well in cyberspace. She is VRML, h-anim 1.0 compliant and looks her best/worst in Cosmo 1.2.

Use the HUD controlls to see the animations:- walking, smoking and turning into a vampire and back to a human again.  She is eager to meet the oversexed jerks one tents to meet in 3D chat areas from time to time - just for a quick drink you understand :)

She is a bit heavy on the polys +-1400 although 400 are in the switch used to perform the transformation but this year I want to be part of the move towards h-anim.

GANDALF

http://www.pointworlds.com/gandalf/gandalf.html

http://www.infinite-d.com

Gandalf is an example of character creation using a variety of multimedia. I used a new vrml animation tool from parallel graphics that I would recommend to anyone! Gandalf was placed into his own scene to show example of a dream-like effect achieved by distorting the field of view. I feel that vrml characters have more impact when their environment is considered.

SONICZZ99

Greetings, I did not make this avatar, but it is on my site.

The creator of this avatar is John Phipps.

I'm sure John will be very happy to have been nominated. I only hope I have replied swiftly enough with the correct the URL, so he maintains his nomination.

MXLR MORPH

http://www.vr4me.com

Was this a morph for the Babel Hunt?  Gee, I don't know, but some people seeing it in Cybertown thought so.
http://www.vr4me.com/avatars/mxlr.wrl

This avatar is not entirely my creation. All I did was but a couple color interpolators into a simple avatar that I found online. I submitted it more to illustrate the technique than to put in any claim for great effort.

This work centers on the idea that Avatars are not character representations. When we strip away the preconceived notions of gestural expression and human forms we find that Avatars are four dimensional points used to exchange data.

URL for a "blue collar" description focused on education. Pictures of the Avatar becoming slides, interactive models, and a galaxy are in the second half. (This is new direction and may take some time to "digest". I suppose a live demo would be very helpful.)
http://www.pd.org/~thatguy/c/educate.html

This was the first example I created. ( http://www.pd.org/~thatguy/A/600_poet.wrl ) A generic poem, and the Avatar does not act out this simple story, it becomes it.

I suppose the quality of the VR work doesn't match the idea I'm putting forth. Oh well,  I've been offered a world and some very good poets have volunteered work. If it make little sense now - no matter - it will in future. Tthe demo here will help some.

And free from unneeded comstraints, the Avatar becomes much more... ( http://www.pd.org/~thatguy/b/12_poet.wrl )

PEEP

You can view Peep in av99avvy

Peep is not the most mature avatar you'll ever meet. In fact, peep tends to be a bit rude. We are currently trying to teach Peep how to behave properly and, well, like I said, we're trying! Peep consists of 790 polygons(plus 2!). Peep was modelled in 3dmax and animated in Lifeforms.

ANT
STATUE
EYE, SMILEY, 8-BALL

http://www.vbe.com/~marquart/avatars.html

I have several avatars which I am quite proud of, so I would like to submit some in three different catagories.

'Statue' I think fits best into the Humanoid catagory,  'Ant' fits into the non-humanoid area, while 'EyeAv', 'Smiley' and '8Ball' all should go into the 'Thats an AV?' catagory. Both the 'Statue' and the 'Ant' were made as gifts for friends of mine so they don't have a long story.

They can all be found in the AW world named 'byDesign'.

TREBLE
DANCER
TAGOK
AW ERPIU

http://millenium.simplenet.com/av99/avvys/\

Treble is our most cherished 'mascotte'. It was our third avatar and was intended as 'bartender' bot. You can meet him at Amuse2 world in the 'Music Club'.

Dancer is the result of cooperation with CACHEFORCE. We asked them some advanced 3D models to test our capabilities of creating high res avatars with FACIAL expressions and high res 'embodiment' The file is quite large 629 KB. But, surprisingly enough, once loaded is like any other avatar and the result is quite spectacular try a closeUP in Amuse2 world where you can meet her.

AW_Erpiu (In the slang of Rome ER_PIU means 'the best') was designed as character that helps children in the game 'Let's Compose together' to be played in Amuse2 world where you can meet him.

Tagok name comes after 'TAGs (are finally) OK'. It was, in fact the first avatar with working gestures/tags for us. It was originally designed as the simplest avatar possible to be used for testing TAGs assignment. We realized afterwards that, in spite of its 'humble' origin it encountered a wide popularity in Amuse2 world where you can meet him.

QUEEN BEE

http://matrix.crosswinds.net/~bluescruiser/

The Avatar...

Queen Bee is an .rwx format avatar used in my world, Blues, in Active Worlds. Unfortunately I will not be able to acquire and master Lifeforms before the deadline; there are no .seqs. The file structure is such that clumps and tags can be arranged easily to facilitate .seqs.

Tech Data and Categories...

Queen Bee is 11.9kb uncompressed, and zips down to 2.35kb for download. She has 402 verticies, 558 polygons, and is texture mapped. I would like to enter her in the Nonhuman, and Best Bang for the Buck categories.

Screen shots and such...

Queen Bee can be previewed at http://webhome.idirect.com/~jymbob/images/bee.jpg,
and a screen capture of her wireframe is at http://matrix.crosswinds.net/~bluescruiser/images/qb_wireframe.jpg

The Story.

"I think that I will never see /an av as lovely as Queen Bee"... the opening lines of a birthday poem from Sidris to Queen Bee. Unfortunatly, at the time the poem was published, Queen Bee was celebrating her birthday in Las Vegas, and Sidris was on the road on business. The posting in the web forum has since expired, and no-one saved the text. The full text is lost... just another fleeting moment in Active Worlds. Such is life.

It did inspire me to write the avatar, which I did so in 2 days... I used notepad, a calculator, and an .rwx viewer. The main reason for it's relatively small file size is this... I don't like to do a lot of typing. Sidris has inspired a lot of my objects, either intentionally, or as an offhand comment, and continues to inspire me even after she has left Active Worlds. Her buildings in AW are legendary, from the original pixel park just south of Ground Zero in AW (now defunct) to her vast community on Real Pops mountain, she has shown remarkable enginuity and imagination. She also had the foresight to realize that what was a heavy burden for a P75 processor in 1996 is a cakewalk for a PIII 450 in 1999, and never compromized artistic flair for the sake of computer performance.

This, the first avatar that I ever wrote, is a handcrafted birthday present to Queen Bee, and a tribute to the genius that is Sidris, and the spirit of freedom and imagination that she inspires.

Activeworld Avatars, all entries on avatar page, RWX format. Can be viewed in AW world Alkemy by downloading and installing the activeworlds browser.

The purpose was so ppl would have fun with them :) Audry was just some bizare idea I had. The bard, dwarf and elf where all meant for a medieval world, they were actually characters I used to use back when I played ad&d.   Santa was somehow of a special order and in a way a challenge. The challenge with Santa was to do something cute :) I try to make my avs as interesting form the back as from the front, after all we spend most of our time looking over the back of our favorite avs. That idea was started with the bard av.

Well, my original avatar was named Rachel because it was done from a picture of Abercrombie... her name was Rachel (Duh!)

I had it Uploaded into the !FunCamp Object Path (Thanks FunCamper) and the problem we had was that there was already an avatar named Rachel and it just so happened that Abercrombie was there waiting for it to be uploaded and when FunCamper asked about it.  Then, all of a sudden, like a bat outta he... err, well just fast she said, "Name it Aber!"  And that's how it got its name.

The Avatar is in RWX Form.  You must use RWXMod to view it because I can't get my Object Path to run on AW. You could also try to get ahold of FunCamper to run !FunCamp so you can view it there.
